The Quilts of the Plains outdoor quilt show began in 2000, and is held annually on the Saturday following Father’s Day. The event is presented by the City of Wray, and sponsored by the Wray Chamber of Commerce. Sponsorships are available in $1000, $300, $100 and $50 levels. Rainbow Fabrics has been the $1,000 sponsor since 2004, and have contributed to the show’s success in many ways.
We encourage quilters of all levels to enter the show, and quilts are hung outside the Main Street storefronts. Antique quilts are also displayed, however, an inside space is allocated for that portion of the exhibit. There is no charge to enter your quilts, and the entries are categorized as follows: Large Quilt, Small Quilt, Baby Quilt, Wall-hanging, Antique Quilt, Quilt Made by Youth-Under 18, and Everything else falls into the Miscellaneous Quilted Items category.
We have given away, as our top prize each year, a new sewing machine. The overall viewers’ choice quilt wins this prize, and all category viewers’ choice winners are presented a beautiful ribbon.
We provide a small vendor mall. Past booths contained fabrics, notions, patterns, books, kits, tools, etc. There are sometimes other vendors selling antiques, gifts, apparel, etc. The variety changes each year. Let us know if you’d be interested in reserving a space.
Periodically, we host a trunk show, or lecture from a quilting teacher. These programs are a wonderful addition to the day’s festivities, and we’d love to hear from you, if you’d consider coming to our show as a presenter.
A raffle quilt is made each year, and tickets are available. The drawing is held at the conclusion of the day’s events, and it is a very popular fund-raiser.
Our event is only possible through the generosity of the quilters, sponsors, volunteers, and local businesses. We cannot thank them enough.
We hope to see YOU at the next show!!!
